Using presets is the best way to maximize your Lightroom. The lightroom presets allow you to edit your photos in a simple but professional way. Most users aren’t aware of where to find the preset and how to install them. To get the information, stay with me as I take you through the process.
A majority of presets are in the form of zip files. Besides creating your own presets, you can download and install the presets into Lightroom.
Steps to follow
Search online for your ideal presets. You can easily locate presets in various websites such as Adobe Exchange. After locating the presets, download the file and save it in your desktop or any other preferred location. Make sure you have unzipped the file.
After downloading and saving the file in your select location, open Lightroom in the develop mode. Select User Presets and make a new folder to store the presets. This step is essential to distinguish your presets from other users.
After creating the folder, right click on the folder then click Import. Locate the preset files you had downloaded earlier, select the presets and import them. The downloaded presets are now part of your Lightroom presets. The downloaded presets can now be applied to your images.
If you want to rename the folder, right click and select rename. You can also rename the folder if you aren’t pleased with the presets you have downloaded. Consequently, you can delete individual presets, by right clicking, followed by the delete option.
To share your downloaded presets, right-click the specific presets and select Export. The preset will be exported to the chosen destination under its present name and an extension LRtemplate (an extension identifying it as a preset.) The preset can be sent as an LRtemplate file that the other party will import into their Lightroom. You can also zip several presets in a file and distribute to others.
If you do not want to create presets on your own, the other option is to search online for downloadable presets. Download and install in your Lightroom as instructed and use them to shape your images.
The above steps are the primary was of installing downloaded presets into your Lightroom. Besides, you can customize your presets. By taking advantage of the contextual options section, right-click the presets section to create a new folder for the presets, rename or delete any preset.
How to troubleshoot preset download issues
A) If you are having trouble downloading presets, try downloading using a different browser.
After downloading do not open the file, save the file and close the dialogue box.
Try location the zip file. Mostly, your file will be available in the downloads folder. You can now open the file and install the presets in the Lightroom.
B) If you can’t unzip the downloaded folder, you will need to download a program to unzip the file. WinRAR is one of the best free unzipping programs you can download and use to open the file.
c) If you have installed presets in your, but they aren’t showing up, try shutting and restarting the Lightroom. Check to confirm that you saved the downloaded presets in the right folder.
If the preset collection name is available in the Lightroom, but you can’t view the individual presets, select the triangle at the left of the collection and the individual presets will drop down.
